The Clemson Off Road Triathlon will be held in beautiful Issaqueena Forest, just minutes from downtown Clemson, on March 7, 2010. This will be a fun and challenging event. A great way to welcome spring and kick off the 2010 racing season! There will be two races to choose from: the Sprint and the Endurance. The Sprint race will consist of a 3 mile trail run through Issaqueena forest, followed by a 2 mile kayak on pristine Issaqueena lake.  The final leg will be a 7 mile mountain bike on some of the best trails South Carolina has to offer. If your up for a challenge, the Endurance race will cosist of a 5 mile trail run through Issaqueena forest, followed by a 4 mile kayak on pristine Issaqueena lake.  The final leg will be a 10 mile mountain bike.

Course

Sprint Breakdown

  • 2 mile kayak (1 lap paddle)
  • 7 mile mountain bike

Endurance Breakdown

  • 5 mile trail run
  • 4 mile kayak (2 lap paddle)

Event I: Trail Run
The Race begins with the 5 mile run course. It takes place on six to ten foot wide hard-packed farm roads and single track woodland trails that will keep participants surrounded by woods and lake view.

Event II: Paddle
The 4 mile paddle course takes place on a 120 acre still water lake, closed to all other boaters. It is a one loop course around Lake Issaqueena nestled in the heart of the Experimental Forest.

  1. Kayaks of all types will be permitted. Canoes will also be allowed. Fixed rudder boats are not recommended.
  2. If you do not have a kayak with which to race, rentals will be available, but reservations must be made ahead of time.
  3. It is required that all paddlers carry with them an approved PFD.

Event III: Bike Course
Participants finish the race on a challenging 10 mile mountain bike course. The trail varies in width from 3 to 8 feet wide featuring both double and single track. The trail is built to accommodate riders of all levels, but offers technical challenges for those with advanced skills. There are, for instance several natural obstacles which may be either ridden or bypassed at the cost of a few seconds time.

  1. Approved Hard Shell Helmets must be worn and fastened before leaving the Transition Area
  2. Stay to right to allow faster cyclist to pass on the left
